Newark Charter School - Senior High (2)

Final exams for grades 9-11 will be held on Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5. Should special circ*mstances arise that require a student in grades 9–11 to miss final exams, a grade of zero will be entered by the teacher and final grades calculated.

When a student returns, they will arrange a time to make up the final exams over the summer with a completion deadline of August 1. Grades, report cards and transcripts will be updated after scoring of final exams is complete. Because final exams are taken by content area and are taken by the entire school at the same time, no final exams can be administered before the scheduled exam time. The school / exam calendar is issued a full year in advance so that families can make travel plans around the school calendar.

Please see the schedule below for specific exam times.

Finals Day 1 (June 4)

7:35-9:00 - ELA

9:00-9:20 - BREAK/TRANSITION

9:25-10:50 - Math

10:50-10:55 - Dismissal

Finals Day 2 (June 5)

7:35-9:00 - Social Studies

9:00-9:20 - BREAK/TRANSITION

9:25-10:50 - Science

10:50-10:55 - Dismissal

Important Note

The last day for students in grades 9-11 is Thursday, June 6, however only students who have to complete a make-up final exam should report to school on that day. All other students should plan on staying home as this is a make-up day.

Beginning in March, the guidance team worked diligently to help students select the most appropriate courses for the upcoming school year. Students had three months to discuss their schedules with parents/counselors/teachers and finally, to review the selection sheet that was mailed home. The final deadline for making changes was May 15. Please do not have your student email or call the counselors or main office about course changes until drop/add begins (August 26).

Our drop/add policy has been updated to consider making schedule changes for valid, educational reasons only.

As ten-month employees, the counselors work limited hours in the summer, specifically to resolve vital scheduling conflicts that could impact a student's ability to meet requirements for graduation. The guidance counselors will begin checking emails again the week of August 26.

Lost and found is filled with a variety of items. Please encourage your student to check lost and found, located in the cafetorium, for any items they are missing.

Lost and found will be cleared out on Thursday, June 6 after dismissal. All clothing items left after June 6 will be donated, and lunch boxes/water bottles will be thrown away.

If your student has lost AirPods, keys, glasses, sunglasses, jewelry or other valuables over the course of the school year, please encourage them to come to the main office as we have quite a collection of items like this.

Students will keep their Chromebooks over the summer. Hopefully, students continue to take good care of the Chromebooks so that they are ready to be used in the fall.

If your student’s Chromebook is in need of repairs, the NCS Technology team will be available on the following dates:

Monday, June 24, 2024 (Meece and Senior High Campus Only)

Monday, July 22, 2024 (Meece, Junior and Senior High Campus)

We cannot guarantee that the Chromebook will be repaired that day. If the repair needs more time, we will collect the Chromebook and notify you when it is ready to be picked up. Please be patient as the Technology team will be working on summer projects and enjoying time off.

Do not bring a Chromebook in for repair on any other day, besides the two dates listed above.

You can find some basic troubleshooting tips at https://www.newarkcharterschool.org/chromebooks

Your student is welcome to continue using their Chromebook over the summer. If the Chromebook will not be used all summer or for an extended period of time, it is recommended that you follow Google's long-term storage procedure to maintain battery health. You can view those steps here: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/9139543?hl=en
